Together against Breast Cancer: France at the forefront of research

What’s happening on October 19?

Answer: World Breast Cancer Day! 🎗️

The month of October is also called “the pink month” and it is not for nothing: it is World Breast Cancer Day.

On this day specially dedicated to awareness and hope, we will explore together the origin of this initiative, the realities of those affected by breast cancer, the essential screening procedures, as well as France’s commitment in scientific research to combat this disease.

The Fight Against Breast Cancer 🎗️

World Breast Cancer Day, celebrated every October, is much more than a date on the calendar. It is a universal reminder of the profound impact of this disease and the need for prevention, early detection, and support for those affected. October 19 is also a day for hope and to honor the courage of those who face this battle, near or far.

It was in 1985 in America that the first breast cancer screening awareness campaign took place. France saw its very first campaign in the early 1990s.

The symbol of this cause is the pink ribbon, the color of which was chosen to represent femininity, gentleness, joy but also good health.

Why do we celebrate World Breast Cancer Day?

This day originates from the urgent need to raise public awareness about the prevalence of breast cancer and the importance of early detection. Another of its objectives is to promote research to develop more effective treatments. France, with its scientific and medical commitment, is on the front line of this battle. 🥊

Who Is Affected by Breast Cancer?

Breast cancer has no borders. It affects millions of women and men around the world, transcending differences of social class and nationality. Raising awareness about this condition is a crucial step in breaking stigmas and encouraging dialogue around breast health. 🎗️

Although women are predominantly affected by this disease, men can also get breast cancer. In fact, these gentlemen represent less than 1% of the total number of breast cancers and, when they are diagnosed, it is most often after the age of 60.

Screening: A Crucial Step for Prevention ❤️‍

Early detection is essential to improve the chances of recovery. Regular mammograms, self-exams and doctor visits are key ways to detect breast cancer early, increasing treatment options and prospects for remission.

In France, this screening generally concerns all women between 50 and 74 years old, without symptoms and who have no particular risk factors for breast cancer, other than their age.

Please remember this: getting tested is not only for yourself, it is also for your loved ones. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Chances of Success linked to Healing and Remission:

Medical advances and ongoing research have significantly improved success rates in the treatment of breast cancer. ✌️ Personalized treatments, surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy offer varied strategies to combat the disease. French research plays an important role in the development of these treatments.

    À noter :

What is the difference between “cure” and “remission”?

    • • a person in “remission” is a person who finished their care less than 5 years ago. It is during this period that the risk of cancer relapse is greatest.
    • • a person in “recovery” is a person who has not experienced a relapse after a period of 5 years and who is considered to be completely treated and cured. 🏆 She will still maintain special medical monitoring throughout her life. 👩‍⚕️

A Message of Hope and Support:🌸

To all those facing breast cancer, as well as their families and friends, we want to send a message of hope and solidarity. You are not alone in this struggle.
